Mass Layoffs at General Motors Ramos Arizpe

At the Ramos Arizpe plant of General Motors in Mexico, 1000 workers have lost their jobs after the White House confirmed the imposition of a 25% tariff on imports of Mexican products. The state government has called for caution in this situation.

Jesús Berino Granados, deputy state leader of the Confederation of Workers of Mexico, reported that one work shift at the plant has been closed. Currently, the plant has reduced the number of work shifts from three to two, and it is considering reducing to one, which would drastically affect the number of employees.

Berino Granados expressed concern about the possible negative impact that the lack of a bilateral agreement with the United States could have in Coahuila, where 80% of jobs in the industry depend on the automotive sector.

Governor Manolo Jimenez Salinas appealed for calm, emphasizing that this adjustment is part of the new policy of the federal government. He is confident that the United States will find the right strategy for American companies to be more competitive globally, especially against Chinese companies.

Despite the recent layoffs at the Ramos Arizpe plant, Jimenez Salinas expressed optimism that General Motors will not completely close its operations in Coahuila. The automotive company had recently laid off 800 workers due to the conclusion of a contract with Honda.
